VishnuSahasraNamam
Sai, here is the promise that I made to You. You alone know how
to make me keep my word :)
......................
Sometime in 2005 I came across a posting in a forum which said
"Vishnu Sahasranamam" burns all the negative feelings
in and around us. But I did not know that slokam and was sure I
could never learn it. In the months of April-May that year I had
some terrible problems to deal with. That is when I made it a point
to listen to Vishnu Namam as and when I can - at least once a day.
A couple of months passed by and I still had not made a single effort
to learn it. I was not motivated and I did not want to force myself
to do that.
One day I went to a local public library after a long time. I was
thrilled to see names like Shiva and Krishna there. I picked up
that book on Krishna. I turned a page. I saw the assurance given
by the Lord to Uddhava - "Oh Uddhava, until my incarnation,
it was believed people would be cleansed of their sins by a holy
dip in the Ganges, but now a holy dip in my stories is enough to
do away with the sins of a thousand lifetimes." It was a book
on Lord Krishna's life. Those words did magic on me. I started reading
that book. My idea of God took a new turn. The incident where Bhishma
says the 1000 names of Vishnu (Vishnu Sahasranaam) was narrated
and that was motivation enough to start learning the Holy and the
Auspicious Vishnu Nama.
Since then this has been my saviour when I almost lost myself during
anxiety attacks and when baseless fears threatened to envelope me
and when my confidence (to exist) hit the lowest level possible.
It has helped me overcome my fears and hesitation about so many
things in life that would not have been otherwise possible for me.
God's Grace manifests to us in ways we may ne'er understand. Sometimes
it comes in the form of sorrows, setbacks and fears that would only
end up making us stronger and taking us nearer to Him. When storms
are lashing we would not have a clear view of anything. So it is
during tough times. Once they subside we'd see His invisble Hand
behind it that granted us Strength to remain unmoved.
