Sairam friends,

I was super exited about the new Google CEO Sunder Pichai and talking about him once in a while to my friends at work. Google is the first company which paid me as a freelancer and I continue to have hopes on them.

Almost all of Google products are used by more than 1 billion people and that’s an achievement.

Last evening, I was talking to someone and he said “Why do we need all this? Can’t we live without these?”

I was telling him, anything which makes my life easier is fine to accept. Today, we can communicate easily than how we were doing before 10 years. If someone is thinking about committing suicide, few years back, all they can do is call someone over phone or message them that they are depressed. You never know if your friend is awake to answer you. But today, you have possibility to find someone who can talk to you and console you. That was my small way of explaining that technology is also saving lives.

He told me “But we are complicating life with these”

I agreed to him and he continued saying, we don’t have such bad intentions and self centered thought process years back. Today, everyone are money minded and we don’t care for others, even if they are our close relatives.

I told him, Kaliyuga seems to run for 4 and a half lakh years. Its just 6000 years now and imagine what would happen in future if we call “today” as worse. Its going to get worse but good people exist in the same ecosystem.

I told him Science and Technology has its own pros and cons. My belief is that if you keep on thinking good and try to do little good as much as possible with the same technology, then, good will come to you.

There are several Social Entrepreneurs, Scientists and Philanthropists like Bill Gates who write wonderfully on their belief about how technology and science can contribute for a better world.

Why do we need all this?

I am not someone who argues with people I like when they share their opinion with me. So I did thought about “Why do we need all this?”.

But can we live without this? Can we let go of the mobile phone or what ever gadgets in future which matters most to me?

Its not impossible but not easy too.

If you see Sai’s perspective, he don’t like anyone collecting things. Meaning, living with too many possession is burden according to any true Saint but Sai doesn’t like his devotees to live odd. Sai himself mingled with people and accepted their way of life.

We do need all this but we can follow these guidelines

1. Before you buy something, ask if you really need it. Don’t be a miser but don’t spend lavishly too.

2. Do not get addicted to any thing you have today for tomorrow, it won’t be yours.

3. What ever you do, ask yourself is this doing any good for me or others. If it is really useful, continue or else, have some limits.

4. Think about using technology for good. Example – Learn to speak humbly and with good manners. Instead, Don’t be rude on anyone.

I am not sure if my list makes sense.

I just believe Saibaba don’t want anyone to be a saint. He wants us to lead a normal life.

All he expects us to do is to think and do good with what ever we have.

Coming back to Sundar Pichai, Hard work pays.

Its not about where you are born or what you do. I have seen several youngsters who judge others and themselves based on the money they earn. In India, what you earn is everything.

Focus on what you like to do and be ambitious.

Do not judge your life by what you earn.

Be passionate about the career you choose and keep learning.

Someday, You will make it big.
