Sairam friends,
This morning I woke up at 5.30 and listened to few Lord Shiva Mantra. I love Lord Shiva and used to go to Shiva Temples during pradosham or atleast make sure I offer a single leaf of Vilva *Bilva to Shiva Lingam in my pooja place at home. Hinduism has indirectly taught us the Art of Giving.
Lord Shiva is pleased with food because I learn someone say that the Heat in the human body is actually the presence of Shiva in oneself. When you are hungry, you wish someone gives you food. When you give food to a hungry person even if he/she is a guest or stranger , you are actually feeding lord Shiva.
We are offering Fruits, flowers and also Dakshina to Gods in Temple. By doing all this we learn to be detached with Materialistic gains and lead a peaceful good life content with what God blesses us with. The problem is devotees ask for Rich, big career and happy relationship in return for their offerings to Gods and Saints.
Of course you can ask all what you desire during prayers but Gods wants to know how good are you if he blesses you with all riches on earth and a happy life with good health. That doesn’t mean God will be pleased as soon as you spend some money to pay for donation in a Temples anna dhan or give some money or food in an Orphanage or old age home.
Giving must come from soul. It must be a habit. It must come cheerfully with the intention to keep giving what ever little you can afford once in a while. I never support people who wants to give all they have and leave their family and responsibilities. You must only give in charity after first looking at your duties and responsibilities.
One way to gain blessings of God is by giving food, water, sweets, clothing, helping in kids education etc. The other way is to make sure the guests who come your home are treated properly and offered good food.
Giving Food is a part of Indian culture and I believe its universal culture too.
When StarSai was launched the caption was “Giving alone can Change your life”.
I kept it as caption because many people used to come temple and just go with prayers. They don’t care about what they did for people who are needy. It could be even their own relative or friends or any one whom they know . Do little you can to make people lead a better life and God will make sure your life is good.
As years passed on StarSai has other articles on Lighting lamps, experiences of devotees etc and I feel there must be a website where I spread the greatness of Giving Food. I created a site but can’t maintain it as years passed on.
I was writing about Social Entrepreneurship yesterday and something made me realize why not have a website which lists restaurants in Indian Cities and also spread this message. I don’t have a product or Idea to sell but I always have a good message that can inspire and motivate people. I wonder how successful my efforts will be but even if it doesn’t earn money,It earns punya and my Bank is always Full
Bank of Blessing
I was looking at Video of Jyothir Ling this morning and wish to share it with you courtesy of devotee who uploaded on youtube
