Sairam friends,
I have 10 minutes to write but something I have learnt is how much we are hooked to people who look good. Beauty, especially in India is connected with “fairness”. Apart from this, beauty is associated with being slim, young and much more around the world. I wonder, if even we realize that we are impressed with people who look good than people who may not? May be, its not intentional but we are loosing our ability to judge people since we are impressed with looks.
There are ordinary looking people with extraordinarily caring heart.
If you ask me to define beauty as such, I would say it is the charm one has to impress the world. If the world doesn’t respond to it, it isn’t beauty. Hence, beauty doesn’t belong to the one who is beautiful. It belongs the the existing social perception and understanding of beauty in the society/Nation in a particular era.
I already wrote about how many people in India likes fair skin in one of my previous article – Onam Festival and a walk to Marudhamalai Murugan Temple
May be, 100 years from now, people would call someone who has dark complexion to be handsome and beautiful.
Like Fashion trends changes every 6 month, the perception and definition of beauty changes every few decades.
I wish to dedicate this article for people who are humiliated or ignored just because they don’t look good. This could be kids in school or adults in college or office environment. Though, I did not write much, I wish everyone understands at some point in their life that “Good people have nothing to do with how they look”
May be, this is why saints like Shirdi Saibaba and other ancient saints at times, don’t take bath even for 4 days. Probably, they are proving even when they don’t look pleasing, people must see what they are “Insider” and not how they appear.
If you are ignoring, breaking-up or hurting someone of your friend, relative or stranger just because they don’t look good ( in your perception), please think again. May be, you are loosing a good friend because of the idea the social perception of beauty has forced in your subconscious mind.
Good people are hiding behind skin you may not be impressed with
Love,
Venkat
