Krishna,What penance was it that Yashoda performed…that she was destined to be your Mother?

Sairam friends,

I was thinking “Who really is Venkat?” or what way I am showing myself to Sai children through StarSai?

You know, Saints always asked their devotees to think who you are while meditating and you will get self-realization. May be I really don’t know who I am. I better call myself “An ordinary Indian and a Little Servant of Shirdi Sai Baba”

If you call me too spiritual or religious, I am not because I have been too material in some of my goals and desires. If you think I often read and think of God and Saints, I really don’t. At times, I have to bring my mind to a state to remember Gods and Saints name.

I like to read about Technology, Gadgets, Entrepreneurs, Start ups,  environment, breaking news, eCommerce, Design, Inspiring Stories of real people and little bit of IT stuff. After all this,I still come back to Sai and my own world of expressing my innermost love for Sai and the play of Gods in my life.

I went to Shirdi Saibaba temple in my hometown yesterday and did Dhyana for few minutes sitting in Dwarakamai. I kept chanting “Sai Radhe Krishna, Sai Radhe Krishna” and I could really feel Radhe-Krishna dwelling in my heart. The moment I open my eyes and look into the holy fire of Sai- Dhuni, I feel blissful for the Vision Sai blessed me with. Then I went to the Shop in temple and was talking to the guys there.

He asked “Why are you not getting married na?” I said, “I don’t know. Sai knows?”

But this time, I was more into Radhe Krishna that I wanted to keep remembering them. I came home and Mom said she has severe stomach pain. I was near her few minutes. Then I wanted to see if there’s a old movie of Radhe Krishna and it was really there. I started watching few minutes and slept off while it continued to play until late night.

I was blessed with a very divine dream but today, am not going to write about dreams.

Couple of days back when I was having lunch with my friends, they discussed about a Mother who was not taken care by her own daughter whom she adopted and gave all her wealth.  It was one of those “Someones” stories we people like to tell our friends.

I immediately felt like reading about Yashoda as she became foster-mother to Sri Krishna. I took my mobile and searched for Yashoda. My friend said, “Why you immediately went to that?” I felt really good for going there because it made me realize the beauty of affection of Mother Yashoda on her little Krishna.

Yashoda’s love for Sri Krishna

Sri Krishna was born to Devaki but she was not gifted to bring him up. The King of Mathura, Kansa was destined to be killed by the 8th child of Devaki and hence Kansa planned to kill the child. As soon as Krishna was born, Vasudeva his father carried the child on his head, crossed the forest and gave it to Yashoda. Yashoda was wife of Nanda and later became foster-mother to Krishna.

Sri Krishna used to be very naughty child. He used to break the pots of girls carrying milk, butter and have them with his friends. The girls and women of village used to come to his Mother Yashoda and complain that her little kid is giving troubles to them.

At times Krishna would play with sand and swollow it in his mouth and Yashoda will beat her little child in anger. Krishna used to bear all the beatings as he loves his mother so much. Since Krishna would steal the pot with butter and involve in naughty activities with his friends, Yashoda would tie her kid to grinding stone and he would stay there for hours until he is freed.

Once when Sri Krishna does some mischief, Yashoda doubts her child and comes near him furiously. She angrily forces him to open his mouth. Is Krishna not the lord who rules all 3 worlds?

Yashoda was surprised and had divine vision in Sri Krishna’s mouth.

yasoda krishna universe

Yasodha saw the whole Universe when she opened Krishna’s mouth

She could see the seven oceans, the whole universe with its vast expanse. She also saw Lord Narayana seated over his divine snake Adishesha and Mahalakshmi doing seva to him. Not only this, Yashodha could see each and every village and her own village. The beauty of it is that, she could also see herself looking into the holy mouth of Sweet little Krishna.

The vision of whole universe including herself was a shock to Yashoda and she faints. People around her woke her up and when she realized the Sri Krishna is really avatar of Maha Vishnu, she could not control her tears.

Krishna doesn’t want his mother to see him as Lord and hence he again appears innocent to his mother. Yashoda hugs him tight with love. The love of a Mother on her son. How beautiful are the plays of Sri Krishna.

Krishna,What penance was it that Yashoda performed…that she was destined to be your Mother?

Poet Surdas has described that Yashoda’s deep affection for Krishna becomes an epitome of ‘Vatsalya Prema’, Mother’s Love and even ‘Vatsalya Bhakti’, Mother’s Devotion

Sage Narada has witnessed Krishna stealing the butter and how his Mother Yashoda would tie him to mortar. He was surprised how Yashoda punished Maha Vishnu who rules all worlds and also how Krishna beared all the punishments without showing his real nature.

Naradha sung thus

“Enna Thavam Saidhanai, Yashoda” which in Tamil literally means: “What penance have You (Mother Yashoda) undertaken to be bestowed with the powers to punish the supreme Lord (Narayana)”.

He also questions the Lord himself on how he accepts all this punishments of his Mother. It literally means what penance Yashoda had undertaken in her previous birth to be bestowed upon with the powers to punish, love, and care for the Supreme Lord Vishnu.

When I read this, I really felt touched by the love between Yadhoda and Sri Krishna. How beautiful it is to be a Mother of God himself and how sweet it is when the Krishna shows his innocence to Yashoda, continues to be naughty and accepts all the punishment, love and care of Yashoda.

That’s it friends.

This morning, When I woke up, My Amma was not well and I asked her should I take off and take her to Doctor. She said, She’s fine and I realized may be I have been blessed with immense love and affection from my Parents and Sister and of course some of my friends who suddenly disappear from life but I am honestly blessed with “Love” for which I really had not taken time to thank Sai and Sri Krishna.

I love this Song so much today

Ennna thavam seythane Yashoooodaa

ennna thavam seythane yeshoooodaa
engum nirai parabramam ammaa
enrazhaika engum nirai parabramam ammaa

What penance was it that Yashoda performed..
That she was destined to be your Mother?
That He who is the Lord of The Universe called her”Amma”

she who was the chosen One to
hold You, caress You, feed You
You who created the Universe…

If Even Lord Brahma, Lord Indra envies her…
She who tied Him to the mortar,
She who bid Him to silence
She who had Him beg for mercy..
Then what can one say about you and me?
Indeed what penance did She perform- she Yashoda…

Saints and Rishis have undergone severe penances
to get a glimpse of Him…
And she a simple, pious woman attained this Supreme Blessing so easily?
What penance is it that Yashoda performed
That he called her “Amma”…

Sometimes, We get upset when our Mother scolds us but this play of Sri Krishna makes me realize even when the Lord himself bears the scoldings and punishments of Yashoda, we too must see the love our Mom has on us when she scolds us or corrects us in good path.

This article is my gratitude to the almighty for blessing me with this Love that came from my Mom, Dad and Sister.

We all must be thankful to God for blessing us with wonderful parents, siblings and good friends.

Sai Bless my Parents with Good health. Heal my Amma please..

Love,

Venkat

  • Sai Ram!

You are correct in saying that you are ordinary Indian. Baba, Krishna..they need simple love and nothing else. We live in materialistic world, so no wonder are caught in maya but His love will surround as a shield. Our pure thoughts towards Prabhu is enough, no need to read granth :-). That’s what I believe and agree with you.

Hope your mum gets well soon!

Thanks for posting very lovely and divine Krishna’s photos.

    Jai Shri Krishna!

  • dear sai

    beautiful article.

every human being or rather every living creature is blessed because the pure atma which is caged in the body is GOD HIMSELF and hence every mother is divine including yours and mine.

    rajkumar

  • Dear sai,

For a moment I forget every thing of this materialist world by reading the Yasodha-Krishna vatsalya prema, Pure and sweet love of mother towards her baby and that too lord ksna. when u see deeply in it, the ksna, infact delivers much much much more love as a child to her mother rather more than being a supreme lord. it simply signifies that mother is as great as god as also for Bhagvan ksna.

Thanks for every thing u posted sai,

    Jai sri Krishna.

    Ravindra.
